Omotesandō Illumination

You may not be able to afford Omotesandō’s shops, but you can afford this impressive annual show of light, the Omotesandō Illumination festival.

The lights are stretched over one kilometer of Omotesandō Avenue and switched on at sunset. At the same time, the narrow pedestrian bridges are blocked off. Those views of the whole street from the official website are not possible unless you happen to be their official photographer or working for the press.

Over 900,000 yellow-coloured LEDs are used in the display and stay on until 10 p.m. . The full display will run from December 2 until December 28, the bushes will retain their lights for a few days longer until January 5.

How’s the Omotesandō Illumination festival?

This isn’t an original illumination festival, but access to the festival is very convenient and you can easily combine it with Omotesandō Hills’ Christmas special and the Shibuya Blue Cave Illumination (until December 25) near Yoyogi Park’s event square.
