When I left the N Seoul tower, the area in front of the tower was already prepared for the cheer squad consisting of Korean young men and women. It was a very unexpected sight for me.

The people in Seoul found a clever way to enhance the reach of their television tower: They built it upon a hill. The N Seoul Tower (North Seoul Tower) can be easily seen from most parts of the city, especially at night, when it’s illuminated.

The museums in Seoul are remarkably cheap – entry into the National Folk Museum is free. The pagoda makes a striking first impression but most of the things are inside of course.

I had set myself a schedule or rather a list of places to see. Next on the list was the Gyeongbok Palace. If you know the British Palace Guards, you also know the Korean ones. While they may look differently, there isn’t anything you can do to distract them.

The city walls of Seoul were destroyed ages ago, but you can still see the gates. The Dongdaemun Gate is number one on the list of National Treasure. Originally built by King Taejo in 1369, the current gate dates back to 1869.

There were two odd things happening today. When I waited for the subway, an elderly Korean woman started talking to me (in Korean) showing me some news (also in Korean) about a culture event (in Korea). I said (in English and some gestures) that I can’t understand her.

Looking around Insadong, I decided to go to one of the cheaper restaurants. The noodles were ok, but what really striked me odd were the scissors provided with it. It made sense somehow because they didn’t provide a knife, but scissors?!?

The park was used by a few joggers – the hardcore ones that didn’t mind the low temperature. There were also something like an open-air gym to train your muscles.

There are many things to discover in Olympic Park and among them are the many sculptures scattered around the park area. I didn’t write down any artist names but the amount of sculptures was impressive.

Usually, each place of Seoul was destroyed at least twice by various invading forces. So it’s not surprising that there is not much left of Mongchon Fortress. It’s more like an elevated hiking path with some good spots to look at the World Peace Gate.
